We will meet at 12:00 noon on 16 January, 2010 in Ed Berland's home in Santa Rosa to work on chairs, chests and/or tables - and discuss upcoming events, as always.
The focus on furniture items helps on a number of fronts. We need more room to display our gear for one. Also, with more table space we can better portray daily life during the Viking age. As people choose, they might want to demonstrate crafts like wood working, carving, chain mail manufacture and so on, much as Kay currently demonstrates wool preparation and weaving. Having a few more tables would also spread out the visitors to our living history display and make it easier for more of us to interact with them. Chairs and chests would give us more authentic seating for everybody while providing storage onsite.
We can also discuss how we could refine "The Viking Art of War" to take advantage of more people in the group and safely expand our combat demos.
Charlie Schroeder, an author writing a book on his experiences learning history as a reeenactor, won't be able to join us. His schedule conflicts with our rescheduled meeting. At some future date, Charlie will talk with us about his book and how Bjornstad might be involved. It will be up to Bjornstad's members to decide whether to work with Charlie. Here's his web site: www.charlieschroeder.net.
